The parts on top of a Straumann implant

Patients often think the implant brand refers only to the screw in the bone. But the parts on top (abutment, screws, bars, crowns) must match the implant's connection exactly, and they are what may need repair over the years.

In short
  • Implant → abutment / multi-unit abutment → crown, bridge or denture.
  • iEXCEL implants share the TorcFit connection; older lines use CrossFit or synOcta.
  • Original parts are a condition of the Straumann Guarantee.1

The layers

  • Abutment: the connector screwed into the implant. Can be stock or custom-made.
  • Ti-base (e.g. Variobase®): a titanium base onto which a custom crown is bonded.2
  • Screw-retained abutment (SRA): used for bridges and full-arch restorations.2
  • Novaloc®: attachments for removable dentures.2
  • Scan bodies: used to record the implant position digitally.
