An established tapered bone-level line, with a narrow Ø2.9 mm option

Bone Level Tapered (BLT) added an apically tapered, self-cutting tip to Straumann's Bone Level implants. The 2014 FDA summary lists diameters of 3.3, 4.1 and 4.8 mm, the NC and RC CrossFit® platforms, lengths of 8–16 mm, and titanium or Roxolid® with SLA® or SLActive®.1

The narrow Ø2.9 mm BLT

The Ø2.9 mm BLT is an apically tapered implant made of Roxolid®, available in 10, 12 and 14 mm with SLA® or SLActive®, on a small CrossFit (SC) platform.2 Straumann positions it for narrow interdental spaces or reduced bone.4

Systematic review

Systematic reviews found that narrow titanium–zirconium implants have survival and bone-level outcomes similar to narrow commercially pure titanium implants. 56

The reviews note limited numbers of studies and short follow-up (about 1–3 years).

BLT and the newer iEXCEL designs

BLT uses the CrossFit® connection, whereas the iEXCEL designs (BLX, BLC, TLX, TLC) use TorcFit™. That means their prosthetic parts are different. A newer system doesn't replace BLT for every case, and Straumann still lists BLT within its Pro Arch full-arch concept.3
