Straumann dental implants: what patients should actually know

If you have been offered Straumann implants, or are considering them, these are the facts worth knowing, taken from regulatory records and Straumann's own documents and labelled as such.

In short
  • Straumann is a Swiss implant company with an FDA history going back to 1990.1
  • Its current system, iEXCEL, has four designs: BLX, TLX, BLC and TLC.2
  • The guarantee is addressed to your dentist and replaces products, not treatment costs.3

1. Straumann is a company; the system is what you get

Your implant will be a specific system, such as BLX or TLC, with a specific diameter and length. Ask for that in writing. 'Straumann' alone isn't enough to identify it later.

2. Material and surface are separate things

Roxolid® is a titanium–zirconium material. SLActive® and SLA® are surfaces. TorcFit™ is a connection. Brochures blend them together; your plan should name them separately.

The Straumann® Guarantee applies in favour of the treating dentist, not the patient, and covers replacement of Straumann products, not associated treatment costs. 3

Quoted from the guarantee form's own conditions. The Lifetime Plus provisions add a treatment compensation for Roxolid® and PURE Ceramic implant fractures, with an amount that varies by market.
